How can we improve DGT GTD?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Default values for new tasks

I would be nice be able to define default values for selected fields, to be used when creating new tasks. For example default folder.

  2. Sync button in all menus

I propose a (manual) sync button in all menus, not only in one. So I have not to click several times to execute a manual sync after a change in my tasks.

  3. Create quick task from email

I used to use a Blackberry application that would allow me to add an email as a task directly from within the email client. It was very convenient. Quite often I would want to follow up on an email. From within the email, if I could select 'add to DGT' or similar and then the subject and/or optionally the sender name would pre-populate the task name (and maybe the body copied to the notes field), that would be very cool.

I suggest to install the following alternative email cient. “K-9 Mail”. It allows you to use the “Share” functionality and, therefore, add a task in DGT GTD. Let me know if that helps you.

  4. End dates for repeating tasks and Option to "pop-up" certain reminders/tasks

Love your app --- ditching Astrid as this app is far superior. Two suggestions at this time On repeating tasks, allow an end date, or a certain number of "repeats". For example, I have a bill for $1,000. $250 a month is due on the 5th of each month for 4 months. I set up a repeating task beginning February 5th to repeat every month but I do not see a way to tell the app to stop repeating after I make the May 5th payment.

Suggestion 2: Make it an option to "pop-up" a task on the screen (like a text message does). If that option could be set by task instead of global that would be awesome. Astrid does this for missed phone calls. Not a deal break by any means.

    Great work my friend.

    Similar to http://dgtale.uservoice.com/forums/103615-general/suggestions/2069781-more-options-for-repeating-intervals

  5. move entries between notes and folders

It would be very handy to have the possibility to move entries which are already in a DGT GTD folder to notes and vice versa. I have lot of entries which are not really todos and they clutter up my folders. A simple way to move them to notes would help a lot. And vice versa to move them back one day.

  6. Improve support for "optional" tasks

Tasks that use the "Optionally on:" modifier often get duplicated after some time and some (unknown) conditions.

I have a daily optional task that gets regularly duplicated (once, twice or more times) over a one week interval...

  7. Make daily reminder about my current today's tasks

Most of the time I am forgetting to watch my tasks for today. Instead of doing a reminder on each task I wanna set a check on option "Remind daily about tasks" which will allow me to see "There is no tasks for today :)" or "Today you have 3 tasks. Show..."

Your (nice) idea is now logged and will be implemented in the beta version which is under development.

  8. Make "Inbox" adds stay in Inbox

When I have a context active to filter down tasks, when I add new items to the Inbox (ex: via sharing or directly) it automatically gets added to the context (which I may or may now want).. but worse is that it doesn't stay in the Inbox.

Perhaps adds/quick-adds in the Inbox need to ignore set context/etc and only adds in other areas would do this... especially since the context filter doesn't even apply to the Inbox.

Thanks Thomas for reporting this issue.

I agree that there is an inconsistent behaviour, but the point to be clarify is about “What’s wrong?”:

option 1: the active filter should filter the inbox list result
option 2: new tasks added from the iinbox list should ignore the active filter in terms of default values

You are suggesting to go for option 2 but I’m not sure it’s the most appropriate.

Could you please motivate your choice and try to convince me?

  9. Strike Out Completed, Clear All,

Sorry if any of this is repetitive from others. I did not get a chance to look through everyone else's suggestions yet.

I spent a long time looking for a good checklist app and this appears to be one of the best out there right now, for me, but there are things that bother me about this app that I'm finding hard to get over.

    1. No "clear all" for checklists. That makes reusing checklists annoying because one has to uncheck everything one by one. I am quite surprised that so many developers overlook this simple feature and it has resulted in my rejecting multiple Checklist applications. If this isn't going to be fixed soon (not to rush you guys or anything), I'm probably just going to have to move on to the next one.

    2. Another simple feature that's common in most Checklist apps is the ability to have completed tasks displayed with a "strike through" line. It makes checklists "feel" so much better when items get "struck out", rather than just checked. I believe that, today, a "strike through" is no more difficult to implement than an underline. I might not stop using this app over this issue, but it bothers me that I may have to settle for an app without a "strike through" option. I really like the strike through feature.

    3. Less important than the above two would be the ability to have square checkboxes, instead of circles. I would just prefer to check off boxes, rather than circles. They seem more organized to me and it just feels better to check off boxes rather than circles. It could be an option in the settings to switch between the two.

    4. An option to put the checkboxes on the right side of the screen, where my finger is more often located, would be nice... especially for those of us with the larger phones.

    5. Less important than the other items here, but still something that I would like, would be the ability to break down checklists into sections, with titles, possibly collapsible, each of which could be marked as "done", as a whole, when that section is completed. Kind of like subchecklists, but on the same page, possibly with a colored title bar.

    6. I'd like to be able to group my notes into different folders.

    7. Why is "Notebook" a separate icon section? Why not just put it under Projects, Checklists and Outline? Call it "Notes" or "Memos" or something like that.

    8. There should be a way to minimize the amount of vertical space any entry takes up. I'd like to see as many items on a checklist on my screen as possible and as many checklist names on my screen as possible. The current size isn't that bad, though... after one removes the "show breadcrumbs" option. (I had to delete a suggestion here because I figured out what the breadcrumb option actually did. I didn't know what it meant. I get it now.)

    9. It would be nice if checklists could either have subchecklists or could be grouped without having to do this under projects. For example, I'd like to keep my "shopping lists" all in one folder, but "shopping lists" isn't exactly a "Project". Maybe this is just a naming issue? For now, I guess it will do, but that means that what I really should be doing is placing all of my checklists into a project called "checklists", which then has a subproject called "Shopping", which then has all of the checlists. The only annoyance with that is that there are extra click to do to get to the checklists from the home screen. However, I did find the option to place a shortcut to that Checklist Project on my home screen, which actually reduces the total number of clicks to get to it, so I'm relatively satisfied, overall, concerning this issue.

    10. I find it kind of irritating that I can't sort the order of Projects and Checklists. I can only sort the items within each Checklist. Please fix that. I hope that request doesn't sound harsh. Just saying it the way it makes me feel.

    11. It would be nice to be able to switch between the customized sort that I've set up for myself and a sort that places the completed items appear at the bottom of the Checklist without having to going to settings repeatedly to change the default option of the Checklist. Sometimes I'd like to see the list the way I wrote it and sometimes I'd like to see the list sorted with the completed items at the bottom.

I've been using the white background, despite the fact that it may use up more battery. Thanks for the option!

Anyway, items #1 would probably force me to move on to a different app if it were not implemented soon. Not having that item could, in the long term, make it very difficult for me to use this app. Good work, though.

Also, I just figured out why having the Notebook button at the bottom makes sense..... quick and easy access to the Notebook directly, even when one is using a Checklist. I'd say that you should probably put the Notes in as I said above, but also leave the button at the bottom as well. It makes sense there also.

Anyway, good work, so far! There are plenty of things about this app that I really like and I wouldn't want to give you the impression that I don't like the app, overall. I do.

    You should:
    1. remove the widgets
    2. reboot
    3. add them again

I guess they (or some of them) have been added some time back with an older (and probably bugged) version of DGT GTD.

Let me know if the update issue will happen again in future.
